Go Back to God

Go back to God

Do you want to go back to God?

We all have had the experience of wanting to go back to God. Maybe at some point in our lives we felt closer to God than we do now. We would like to be that close, or closer, to Him again.

Everyone has felt that. What really matters is what we do about that feeling. Do we take action?

That feeling is likely more than just an emotion. God likely is saying something to you. Maybe he is seeking you out and wants to remind you of something important. If God is seeking you out, what are you going to do?

Most of us are afraid of God. If the truth were to come out, we might admit that we feel some hesitation to know Him. This could come from a number of common and natural reasons. One is that we know we have done bad things that make us ashamed before Him. Another is because God is so big and we don’t know what it’s like to know Him.

These hesitations are based on fear. Fear is really the enemy of relationships. It is very simple. God loves us. He knows we are not perfect. He does not want us to be afraid to know Him. He created you because He likes you and He didn’t create you to ignore or run away from Him. Yes, there is a problem with the gap between our mistakes and God’s goodness. But that gap has been erased by Jesus. That’s why God asks us to trust in Jesus and not ourselves.

Instead of seeking to make ourselves righteous, we are to trust Him to give us His righteousness. That is what it means to have faith in Jesus. We are placing our faith in God’s love and righteousness and not ourselves.

This is why, if we want to go back to God, it is easier than we think. The way has already been made for us. All we have to do is say “yes” to Him.

It doesn’t matter if you have tried and not seemed to succeed other times before. God is a God of “yes,” and if you say “yes,” to Him right now, He is saying, “yes” back to you. He gives you the power to succeed. We serve a God of great power and love.

If you’d like to say “yes” to Him right now and take an important step to go back to God, here’s an example of a prayer you can pray:

Dear God,

I know you love me even though I’ve made many mistakes.

I apologize for being far from you. Thank you for taking me back now and always forgiving me.

Please bring me close to You right now.

Please cast out all my fear with Your perfect love.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
